Boyz II Men on the Questlove Supreme Podcast

All Philly All the Time: The Roots’ Questlove interviews Boyz II Men on Questlove Supreme podcast starting November 18.

It’s no secret that Philly’s own Questlove of The Roots and NBC’s “The Tonight Show” has a deep abiding love for, and encyclopedic knowledge of music of all stripes. That his comprehensive roots are ground and wound deepest in rhythm and blues should also be no surprise. It’s in his blood. With a father in soul singer Lee Andrews and a family fully committed to music, and to Quest’s hometown of Philadelphia.

Yes, Quest’s iHeart podcast, Questlove Supreme looks at music in an “irreverent and educational” fashion. The secret stories of musical legends and cultural icons and even legends in the making. So far that has meant singers such as Usher and Chaka Khan, rappers such as Prodigy. Managers such as Shep Gordon and Shawn Gee. Dignitaries such as Michelle Obama, playwrights such as Lin-Manuel Miranda. Musicians such as Steve Miller. Producers such as Babyface. News reporters such as Joy Reid. Directors such as Spike Lee. Comedians such as Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, Weird Al Yankovich and many more.

And this week, Questlove – who mostly lives in New York City, now – comes home for a special two-part episode with iconic R&B group Boyz II Men. Part 1 of this interview will debut November 18. Part 2 releases on Wednesday, November 25, just in time for Thanksgiving Eve.

Boyz II Men’s Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris have been together since the tail end of the 80s. A brotherly bond formed and fulminated at the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts while practicing harmonies in CAPA”s school bathroom. Their creamy brand of soul led to renown such as the multi-platinum plated likes of “Cooleyhighharmony” and “End of the Road” in 1991 and 1992. It also led to a lifetime of stories the likes of which he’ll discuss with Questlove – a fellow CAPA alum.

During episode one, Boyz II Men will talk about the murder of their tour manager. A serious subject that they don’t talk about often. On episode two, Wanya will discuss his relationship with Brandy. And that he wrote the “Moesha” theme song with his mother but didn’t get any credit since they were dating at the time
