Bank on PnB Rock

Germantown’s PnB Rock takes the stage at The Met.

Early in the year arrest aside, 2019 was PnB Rock’s best, shining season, one that concludes with his biggest solo headlining date in his hometown with a December 28 show at The Met Philadelphia.

While one could point out Rock’s wealth of top-tier features, this year, on number one albums such as “A Love Letter to You 4” from Trippie Redd, the posthumously released “Bad Vibes Forever” from the late XXXTentacion, and the “No. 6 Collaborations Project” from Ed Sheeran, there were contributions too to the “Quality Control: Control the Streets, Vol. 2” compilation and the “Summertime Shootout 3: Coldest Summer Ever” mixtape series from Fabolous. Let us not forget too, his teaming with Nicki Minaj and Murda Beatz on the “Fendi” track this fall.

More than likely, though, it was PnB Rock’s first top-five Billboard album, “TrapStar Turnt PopStar,” that turned the heads with its mix and mash-up of creamy R&B and curt trap-hop into one cohesive whole.

Six years since his first mixtape, Bangerz, Rock told me in 2018 that he has come a long way since his days in Germantown and his earliest tracks. “I’ve changed so much and things move so fast – evolution is a God-given talent… I’m looking for the next adventure.”

(PnB) Rock on.
