AT Frenchies Sign “Pardon Our French” at Alliance Française de Philadelphie on October 26

AT Frenchies sign Pardon Our French at Alliance Française de Philadelphie on Oct. 26, noon to 2 p.m. Free, RSVP by Friday.

Two friends who grew up in Paris came to America to play soccer, and somehow ended up teaching more than 2 million followers how to live a little more like the French. On Monday, October 26, AT Frenchies bring that act to Walnut Street, where they will sign their book at the Alliance Française de Philadelphie.

The signing runs from noon to 2:00 p.m. at 1420 Walnut Street, Suite 700. It is free, but registration is required, and the RSVP window closes Friday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m. Each registration can bring up to three additional guests, and the conversation will move between English and French.

Who Are the AT Frenchies

Alex Durand and Tom Carles run AT Frenchies, a French language and culture account that has built an audience of more than 2 million followers. Both men arrived in the States on soccer scholarships, and their content often nods to Philadelphia sports culture. They have a name for the mix of the two worlds: Phrench.

It is an easy mix to like. Plenty of people learn French from a textbook and never hear how it sounds on a sidewalk, and these two keep the lessons light, personal and a little teasing. That tone is a big part of why a Monday signing at a language school feels like a natural fit.

Their reach is large, but the pitch is small and friendly: learn a phrase, laugh at a stereotype, pick up a habit. At the Walnut Street signing that same energy will fill a room instead of a feed.

What AT Frenchies Wrote in “Pardon Our French”

The book is called “Pardon Our French: The Parisian Way to a Happier Life”. The event page describes it as a collection of tips for a less stressful life, from enjoying life’s pleasures to making friends who last and finding a better balance between work and play.

I like the premise because it does not ask anyone to move to Paris. The advice is about habits, like lingering over a meal or protecting an evening, and a reader can try them on a regular Tuesday. If AT Frenchies can make it sound easy, a lot of us will give it a shot.

Why Alliance Française Is the Right Room for AT Frenchies

The Alliance Française de Philadelphie is a nonprofit that has taught French in the city since 1903. It runs classes for all levels, plus cultural events, so a beginner will feel as welcome as a fluent speaker. Its stated aim is to bring the wider Philadelphia community into the study of French and Francophone cultures. A book signing with two of the internet’s friendliest French teachers fits that mission well.

If this scratches an itch, our Francophone Authors Festival Philadelphia coverage shows how much French-language culture the city already has, and the Bastille Day roundup is a good place to start planning your next French-flavored weekend.

How to Meet AT Frenchies on Monday

Books will be for sale on site, but the stock is limited, so the event page suggests ordering ahead at atfrenchies.com/book. If you already own a copy, bring it along for a signature. Registration happens through the Alliance Française de Philadelphie event page, and it closes before the weekend ends, so do not wait until Monday morning.

Come hungry for good advice, bring a friend who has always wanted to learn French, and take your time in line. AT Frenchies will be there from noon until 2:00 p.m., and the room is set up for conversation. It is a pleasant way to spend a Monday lunch hour, and you may leave with a better idea of how to enjoy the rest of the week.
