Calder Gardens April 2026 Programs

Calder Gardens April 2026 programs include a free sound bath ceremony by Guadalupe Maravilla, Silent Day, Moon Alignment meditation sessions, and daily guided walks through the galleries and gardens.

Calder Gardens April programming brings four distinct experiences to the Parkway’s newest cultural destination this month, each one designed to slow you down and change how you engage with art, sound, and silence. A free sound bath ceremony led by artist and healer Guadalupe Maravilla opens the month’s highlights on April 18. Silent Day returns on April 22 for four hours of reduced-audience, sensory-aware gallery access. The Moon Alignment series holds sessions on April 16 and April 30. And daily guided Walks at Calder Gardens continue to offer intimate, small-group explorations of Alexander Calder’s work in dialogue with architecture and nature.

Sound Bath Ceremony Opens Calder Gardens April Programming

The Artists as Gardens series continues on Saturday, April 18, with a healing sound bath ceremony — the first program presented at Calder Gardens by visual artist, humanitarian worker, and healer Guadalupe Maravilla. Developed in collaboration with healers Tiffany Martinez, Miralva Swaby, and Penpa Tsering, the ceremony unfolds across different spaces in Calder Gardens, activating the galleries where Calder’s works are displayed as well as the mezzanine steps. Two sessions are offered at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The event is free with limited capacity, and registration is encouraged.

Using singing, guided meditation, gongs, singing bowls, conch shells, bells, and other resonant instruments, the healers generate waves of sound that move through the body and the surrounding architecture. Some of the featured gongs were produced by Maravilla during his 2025 fellowship at RAIR in Philadelphia. Maravilla describes the process as collective vibration — a shared ritual where sound becomes a vehicle for physical, emotional, and spiritual cleansing. The program particularly welcomes students, cancer patients, people living with other health conditions, ACCESS cardholders, and people with roots throughout the Americas. It reflects Maravilla’s ongoing commitment to making sound healing accessible to communities who may benefit most from spaces of rest and care.

Silent Day Returns in Calder Gardens April

Silent Day at Calder Gardens takes place Wednesday, April 22, from 3 to 7 p.m. The monthly program invites visitors to experience quiet attention with full gallery and garden access at reduced audience capacity. Designated areas for reading, drawing, writing, and meditation are available throughout the spaces, with chairs, tables, and meditation cushions provided. Visitors are welcome to bring their own meditation pillows. Tickets are $22, or $10 for members.

The reduced-sensory environment supports visitors with autism, social and emotional needs, dementia, and other sensory sensitivities, while offering a grounded and spacious experience for anyone seeking respite from daily pace. Silent Day reflects Calder Gardens’ commitment to being a site of care, contemplation, and well-being — a philosophy that runs through every program in the Calder Gardens April calendar and distinguishes this institution from anything else on the Parkway.

Moon Alignment Series in Calder Gardens April

The Moon Alignment series holds two after-hours sessions in Calder Gardens April — New Moon on April 16 and Full Moon on April 30, both from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Led by Calder Gardens Contemplative Arts Fellow Isha Strasser, each session opens with a brief discussion, followed by walking meditation, silent meditation, and closing reflections. The series frames the alignment of the Sun, Moon, and Earth as a rhythmic interplay and an opportunity to contemplate motion and stillness in relationship with our closest celestial neighbors. Tickets are $45, or $30 for members, with limited capacity.

Daily Walks Complete the Calder Gardens April Experience

Walks at Calder Gardens run Thursday through Monday at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. throughout Calder Gardens April and beyond. These 45-minute, small-group experiences are limited to 10 visitors per walk and led by specially trained guides who facilitate reflective close-looking and conversations designed to inspire new perspectives on art and wellness. Tickets are $30, or $15 for members, and include admission. Private walks are also available by calling 215.278.7250.

If you have been following how Philadelphia’s Parkway institutions are programming this April, Calder Gardens stands apart by treating the visitor experience itself as an art form — one where silence, sound, movement, and stillness carry as much weight as the mobiles and stabiles on display. The building, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, amplifies every one of these programs in ways that a conventional gallery space simply cannot.
