Cinco de Mayo on a Friday? Where, how, and when to celebrate in Philadelphia this year.

Many festive celebrations are planned for Cinco de Mayo this year, especially since it falls on a Friday. Various venues, pubs, and restaurants in Philadelphia and beyond are hosting block parties, live entertainment, and serving tasty food and drinks. Here are a few choice options to get your Margarita and Guac on.

Start your Cinco de Mayo celebration at the Pistola’s Del Sur’s Cinco de Mayo Block Party from 4 pm to 10 pm by the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID). This street party will occur on East Passyunk Avenue, from Broad Street to Juniper Street. Pistola’s Del Sur will offer extra-special food and beverage options, while DJ Marc Faletti from Latchkey record store will provide live entertainment.

The Dutch offers a special drink called Jala-Piña Margarita for Cinco de Mayo. This unique twist on the classic margarita is made by Lead Bartender Catie Ritchie using muddled jalapeño, lime juice, spiced pineapple shrub, triple sec, and tequila.

Gaul & Co. Malt House is hosting a Cinco de Mayo celebration at its Port Richmond and Rockledge locations. Guests can enjoy a complimentary serving of house-made guacamole with the purchase of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Teramana Tequila. The event will also offer Modelo, taco specials, and live entertainment throughout the day until close.

Patchwork will have a Cinco de Mayo Margarita Bar during dinner hours, where guests can select from various premium fruit mix-ins, including Classic, Guava, Strawberry, and Paloma. For fare, Patchwork is serving Braised Lamb Belly Tacos with roasted poblano salsa and slaw to complement the margaritas.

Red Owl Tavern offers a variety of twists on the traditional margarita and seasonal craft cocktails. Lead Bartender Christopher Devern will prepare two tequila-focused cocktails: the Garden Smash, made with Strawberry Corralejo, Aperol, basil agave, and lime, and the Picosa, made with Jalapeño Ilegal, Ancho Reyes Verde, grilled pineapple, mango, and lime.

Square 1682 offers various festive options, including Chicken Quesadillas with ranchero salsa, Sweet Corn Tamalitos with chile jam and crema, and Pomegranate Seed Mix Guacamole served with crispy corn tortilla chips. Libations include a selection of three Casa Noble tequilas for you to try. They also serve a special craft cocktail called “Pomelo Bola Alta” made with Mi Campo Tequila, Champagne syrup, lemon juice, and Fever Tree grapefruit soda.

Stratus Rooftop Lounge will have Classic Margaritas available all night long. Take notice of Lead Bartender Patrick Banko’s new drink called Tax Evasion. This drink is made of mint and hibiscus-infused Ilegal Mezcal, rhubarb agave, Ancho Reyes, and lime juice.

At El Rey, enjoy exclusive food and drink specials, custom merch giveaways, DJ entertainment, and restaurant-wide games of Lotteria to play with your table. Cinco de Mayo drink specials include Frozen Chinola Passion Fruit Margarita, Tamarind Margarita, Sangria pitchers, La Bomba (a dressed Tecate can with a shot of tequila), and Jello shots. Who doesn’t love Jello shots? El Rey is serving up food specials, as well, with fluke ceviche, which is made of lime-marinated fluke with red onion, tomato, cilantro, serrano chili, and tortilla chips. There is also a puffy taco consisting of crispy flour tortillas, refried beans, seasoned ground beef, queso mixto, lettuce, pico de gallo, salsa roja, and crema. Make sure to check out the El Rey Sonoran hot dog which is a bacon-wrapped hot dog with refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos, and chipotle mayo.

El Vez! hosts a lively street party from 2 pm to 8 pm. The street will be closed to traffic starting at 2 pm so visitors can enjoy creative twists on traditional Mexican dishes, refreshing margaritas, and music by the Latin-influenced DJ Ozkaroara.

LMNO has an extended happy hour from 4 pm to 8 pm. LMNO will also offer a special frozen red sangria drink throughout the day. DJ Shino will be playing Latin-inspired music.

At Hard Rock Cafe Philadelphia, you’ll find a variety of festive food and drink options and a live mariachi band. Menu items include jumbo margaritas in flavors like Baja California Blackberry, Mexico City Mango, and Cancun Orange Cadillac, as well as classic dishes such as Tequila Lime Marinated Chicken Fajitas and Chips and Queso.

Rounding out our Cinco de Mayo list is the fiesta at PBR Philly in Xfinity Live! on Friday, which includes a night of line dancing, bull riding, live entertainment, and DJs. In addition, PBR Philly offers two featured cocktails, including the Margarita Boots served in a unique souvenir light-up boot cup, and the Skrewed Up Margarita.
