Reviving a pre-pandemic favorite, Royal Boucherie’s Dogs on the Deck pits top chefs in a hotdog cooking showdown, all for a good cause.

Royal Boucherie, the bustling neighborhood restaurant and bar in Old City, is returning its much-loved pre-pandemic event, Dogs on the Deck. This charitable hotdog cooking competition is set to take place on Thursday, August 24, from 6 pm to 9 pm. The lively rooftop patio will be the stage for five accomplished Philadelphia area chefs to compete and showcase their creative hot dog concoctions. The event promises a flavorful showdown and supports a worthy cause, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

Owned by Stephen Simons, David Frank, and CEO Suzanne O’Brien, Royal Boucherie is a vibrant brasserie in the heart of Old City. Its menu boasts a French-inspired culinary experience, highlighting house-made charcuterie, raw bar delights, and classic cocktails. The meticulously designed space, overseen by renowned designer Meg Rodgers and Brian Bendel of Marguerite Rodgers Interior Design, preserves the historical charm of the 1830s building. The rooftop garden terrace, offering seating for up to 35, adds an outdoor touch to the venue’s allure.

For the competition, five chefs from the Philadelphia area will craft their unique interpretations of the perfect hot dog. The line-up includes Val Stryjewski of Royal Boucherie, Nic Macri from Khyber Pass Pub, Chad Durkin representing Porco’s Porchetteria, Eli Milligan from Rosemary, and Adam Volk of Redcrest Kitchen. As attendees savor each innovative creation, they’ll also have the opportunity to cast their votes for the ultimate hot dog champion.

To complement the delectable bites, attendees will enjoy complimentary cocktails courtesy of Boardroom Spirits, an event co-sponsor. Moreover, Royal Boucherie will host a raffle with exciting prizes on offer. Tickets for the event are $40 per person and can be purchased through Tock.

As Dogs on the Deck returns to Royal Boucherie’s rooftop oasis, it not only promises a flavorful evening but also supports a cause close to many hearts in Philadelphia. A celebration of culinary creativity, community, and compassion, this event brings together top chefs and eager hot dog enthusiasts for a night of fantastic flavors and philanthropy.
