Fantasy Faire Block Party returns to South Street on Saturday, September 26, from noon to 8 PM, with Queen & Rook turning the 100 block between 2nd and Front into a free, costume-encouraged Renaissance faire. It’s the kind of street takeover that only makes sense once you know what’s normally inside the building anchoring it. Costumes aren’t required, but showing up in street clothes will feel like the wrong choice by midday.
What’s Happening at Fantasy Faire Block Party
More than 40 fantasy and craft vendors line the street with costumes, chainmail, tarot readings, oddities, crochet dragons, and interactive crystal activities. A main stage at South and Hancock hosts sword fighting and fire performers throughout the day, while food carts serve pickle on a stick and soft pretzel swords alongside draft mead and potion shots.
Family-friendly programming runs throughout the afternoon, and the whole footprint stays free to walk through even for anyone just passing by.
Queen & Rook itself stays open through the festival, taking Resy reservations for indoor dining with wood-fired pizzas and a witch-themed fall cocktail menu. Once the street festival wraps for the night, the bar and downstairs arcade keep running as usual.
Fantasy Faire Block Party’s Home Base
Queen & Rook, at 123 South Street, bills itself as Philadelphia’s top-rated gaming destination and the biggest board game restaurant on the East Coast. The library runs over 2,500 titles, and board game access costs $7 per person for a 2.5-hour reservation, with staff Gamekeepers on hand to teach anything in the collection. The retro arcade downstairs runs separately, alongside a kitchen turning out wood-fired pizzas, kimchi burgers, and hand-cut fries.
That combination, a genuine restaurant kitchen, a serious game library, and a full bar, is what makes the block party feel like an extension of the building rather than a separate event that happens to be nearby.
