First Fridays at Cunningham Hall

Cunningham Piano Company Launches First Fridays at Cunningham Hall, a Seven-Concert Season in King of Prussia

First Fridays at Cunningham Hall starts Nov. 6 in King of Prussia with Eric Wortham II. Seven monthly concerts; opening night is $30.

A showroom full of pianos is a quiet place until somebody sits down and plays one. First Fridays at Cunningham Hall fixes that, with seven monthly concerts in King of Prussia that start on Friday, November 6 and run through May. It is a simple idea, and a good one.

Cunningham Piano Company will host the series in Cunningham Hall, inside its new building at 450 S. Henderson Road, Suite A. Opening night costs $30, with tickets sold through Humanitix.

Who Opens First Fridays at Cunningham Hall

Eric Wortham II opens the season. He is a Philadelphia native, and Cunningham’s own page says he has been Adele’s pianist since 2016, including her Las Vegas and Munich residencies. His playing mixes jazz, soul and classical training, which makes him a lively choice for a room that exists to show off pianos.

Wortham also has a history with the old Germantown shop that this building replaces, a thread we followed in our story on the Cunningham Piano opening in King of Prussia. Starting with a hometown pianist gives the series a face that Philadelphia already knows.

The Season Behind First Fridays at Cunningham Hall

December 4 brings pianists José Meléndez and Ting Ting Wong for a four-hand program that runs from Mozart to Piazzolla. On January 8, a Philly POPS jazz group plays jazz favorites and Broadway standards. February 5 belongs to Derek Hartman, who won first prize at the 2025 International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna.

March 5 pairs Mădălina-Claudia Dănilă with Hugh Sung, who is also a vice president at Cunningham, for another four-hand night. On April 2, Opera Philadelphia previews Verdi’s Aida, which opens at the Academy of Music on April 17. Sara Davis Buechner closes the season on May 7.

That is a lot of range for seven dates. Jazz, four-hand piano, a Beethoven prizewinner and an opera preview make First Fridays at Cunningham Hall feel curated and not random, and the pairing of the opera preview with the full production is a smart bit of timing.

Cunningham’s co-owner Tim Oliver says “Cunningham Hall was created to bring people together through music.” The building backs that up, with a Yamaha Experience Room for digital and reproducing pianos, five private instruction rooms and a restoration shop under the same roof.

With 200 to 300 pianos on the floor, First Fridays at Cunningham Hall gives listeners plenty to compare after the final note, from traditional acoustic instruments to some of the most technologically advanced pianos available.

I like that the concerts happen where the instruments live. You can hear what a good piano does in a good room, then walk past the rest of the showroom and understand why people fall for them. For anyone who loved our Benny Green solo piano coverage, this is the next place to hear a pianist up close.

Getting to First Fridays at Cunningham Hall

The King of Prussia showroom is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Monday by appointment. Those are store hours, and concert start times will come separately. If you are making an evening of it, our King of Prussia Town Center anniversary story covers what else is nearby.

Start with November 6, bring a friend who has never heard a pianist from this close, and see how the night feels. If First Fridays at Cunningham Hall earns a spot on your calendar, the other six Fridays are an easy habit to keep.
