Cunningham Piano King of Prussia opens October 1 at 450 S. Henderson Road, and it is a bigger bet than a normal store move. The 135-year-old Philadelphia piano company has left its Germantown restoration factory behind and folded everything into one 15,000-square-foot building with a showroom, workshop, lesson rooms and a 150-seat concert space.
The grand opening concert is Friday, November 6, and the pianist on the bill has a history with the Germantown shop this building replaces.
Why Cunningham Piano King of Prussia Replaces the Germantown Shop
The old Coulter Street building was a prewar stable turned warehouse, with narrow, steep stairs, floors that bent under the equipment and a residential street that could not take delivery trucks. That is a hard fit for pianos that can weigh 800 pounds. The building sale closed in March 2026, and Cunningham moved out that April.

Cunningham Piano King of Prussia has a loading dock and room for 18-wheelers. It also puts the Germantown restoration crew and the old King of Prussia retail staff under one roof, about 15 technicians, instructors and sales associates. Patrick J. Cunningham, an Irish immigrant, founded the company in 1891. Co-owner Tim Oliver says the business is on an upward trajectory and needed the move to last another 130 years.
Inside Cunningham Piano King of Prussia: Pianos, Lessons and a Concert Hall
Expect 200 to 300 pianos, from traditional acoustics to some of the most technologically advanced instruments on the market. The centerpiece is the Yamaha Experience Room, where players can try Yamaha’s Disklavier, an acoustic piano that can record and reproduce performances, next to the Clavinova digital line. Oliver says the goal is to “usher in 21st-century musicians.”
Five private instruction rooms will handle piano, strings and voice lessons, and Cunningham’s restoration shop is on site. Co-owner Rich Galassini wants people to come in even if they are not shopping for a piano, to hear an artist, bring a child to live music or watch how a piano gets restored.
The owners play, too. Oliver is a pianist and classical tenor who joined in 1997 and helped revive the historic Matchless Cunningham piano. Galassini, a tenor and music educator, joined in 1987. Vice president Hugh Sung made his Philadelphia Orchestra debut at 11, entered Curtis at 13 and co-founded AirTurn, the hands-free page-turning company.

Eric Wortham Opens Cunningham Piano King of Prussia
Eric Wortham grew up in Germantown and Mount Airy, where his family’s piano was old and in poor shape. He practiced at the Germantown store and has credited that access with helping him become a musician. He went on to spend eight years as Adele’s pianist, and he is a Yamaha Artist who has also worked with Jill Scott and Seal. He has joined local bills like Voices of Hope, too.

Galassini wants the new building to be “a gathering place for the region’s music community.” For one young pianist without a working piano at home, the old store already was.
