The Founders Philly Freeze Out is an exciting winter festival on February 3, 2023. It’s a celebration of the cold season and marks the start of a historic year for Manayunk as it commemorates its Bicentennial. The festival is a collaboration between Manayunk Development Corporation and Founders Brewing Company, and it’s a testament to the community’s spirit. It combines art, culture, and culinary excellence in a unique winter setting that everyone can enjoy.
The festival transforms Manayunk into a frosty paradise, with over 25 ice sculptures, live ice carving demonstrations by renowned “ice king” Peter Slavin of Ice Sculpture Philadelphia, and a range of activities that cater to everyone. The day starts with the Freeze Out Run at 9:30 am, a three-mile fun run presented by Philadelphia Runner and New Balance, which requires advance registration. Following the run, the main event kicks off from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, offering an array of attractions and activities for visitors of all ages.
The festival features an interactive ice sculpture by the Philadelphia Flyers street team, a new snowy ice igloo experience for photo opportunities, and delicious offerings from popular food trucks. Visitors can also enjoy Founders and MNYK giveaways, a winter shopping pop-up market, and exclusive Founders specials at restaurants and bars along Main Street.
One of the highlights of the Founders Philly Freeze Out is the 2024 MNYK Chowder Crawl, a must-attend for chowder heads. From 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm, local restaurants will showcase their culinary skills by creating their unique versions of chowder, a winter comfort food favorite. Tickets for the Chowder Crawl are available for $15 and are expected to sell out quickly.
In addition to the culinary and artistic attractions, the Founders Philly Freeze Out will feature a Lion Dance with New Leaf in celebration of the Chinese and Lunar New Year. This cultural performance adds another layer of diversity and entertainment to the already-packed festival lineup.
The Founders Winter Market, a one-day pop-up at Richards Apex from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, will host an array of vendors offering art, apparel, accessories, candles, jewelry, home goods, and more, providing an excellent opportunity for winter shopping.
