Roxtoberfest 2026 takes over Ridge Avenue this Saturday, October 3, from noon to 6 p.m., and it costs nothing to walk in. The Roxborough Development Corporation is running the 14th edition, with steins, scarecrows, three stages and a pet costume contest.
It began in 2013 as a small neighborhood street festival, and it still runs like one. Jax Cusack, the corporation’s executive director, says it’s at heart “still about bringing people together.” The Oktoberfest label is real, but the German part is mostly costumes, a brass band and a contest. The rest is a neighborhood showing off.
Roxtoberfest 2026 Runs From Lyceum to Hermitage
The festival fills Ridge Avenue between Lyceum Avenue and Leverington Avenue. The Main Stage sits at Ridge and Lyceum, and the kids’ activities are in Pocket Park. The Scarecrow Walk stretches farther, from Leverington Avenue to Hermitage Street. Food and drink are pay-as-you-go, and everything else is free.
The walk is the most Roxborough thing about Roxtoberfest 2026. It comes back with Friends of Gorgas Park, and local businesses, community groups and residents build their own scarecrows. Visitors vote, with photos tagged #roxscarecrows, and prizes go to the best, the funniest and the quirkiest. It’s a low-tech contest, which is why a neighbor with some straw can beat a business with a budget.
The same organizer runs Roxborough Spring Fest, so this is the fall counterpart to that spring block party.

Music, Steins and the PAWrade at Roxtoberfest 2026
Three stages carry the afternoon. The RoxYunk Porchfest stage is presented by Roxborough Memorial Hospital, the Community Stage by Jefferson Health, and the third is the Main Stage. Acts include Emmanuel Ohemeng III, Perpetual Motion, The Band Joe, Action Karate and Pretzel Theater Co., and Galena Brass Band plays oompah music from 1 to 3 p.m.
The full lineup and set times haven’t been released, so plan to wander. That’s not a bad way to work a festival that’s six blocks long.
The Stein Holding Competition starts at 2 p.m. at the Main Stage, presented by The Rook in Manayunk. Competitors hold a stein straight out and keep that arm up the longest. Adult winners take gift cards to The Rook: $100 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third. Kids get their own contest, and sign-up is at the table near the stage. Holding a stein out sounds easy until about minute three.
The PAWrade starts at 1:30 p.m. sharp at the Jefferson Health Community Stage, at Ridge Avenue and Dupont, and it’s free to enter. Pets compete in four categories: Best Costume, Best Strut/Wag, Most Creative, and Best in Show. Judges are looking at creativity, personality, originality and attitude. Dogs and cats are both welcome.

Kids, Fairies and Pumpkins at Roxtoberfest 2026
The Kids Zone runs in Pocket Park from noon to 5 p.m., with balloon animals, carnival games and a three-hole mini golf course. New this year is the Great Fairy Games, an all-ages game show with Bloom the Flower Fairy and Fauve the Animal Fairy, built around traditional games and audience participation.
Pumpkin carver John Zeggert is also new, working from noon to 4 p.m. at 6174 Ridge Avenue. The Community Wellness Village, presented by Independence Blue Cross, is new as well, with free health screenings and eye checks, flu shots, chair massages and fresh apples. Yoga and Pilates with Motavita Studio starts there at 1 p.m.
The Central Roxborough Civic Association leads tours of historic Leverington Cemetery during the festival, covering early settlers, Revolutionary War patriots and Civil War heroes. A cemetery walk a few steps from a stein contest is the kind of mix only a neighborhood festival can get away with.

What to Eat and Drink at Roxtoberfest 2026
The food trucks include A Taste of Philly, Deke’s BBQ, Federal Donuts with its twice-fried chicken and donuts, Frios Gourmet Pops, Humpty’s Dumplings and Taqueria Los Gallos. Neighborhood spots round it out: Roma Cafe, Lenny’s Hoagies, Santucci’s, Fly South Coffee, Jenny’s Smoothies, Roma Pizza and Taylor’s Cafe.
New Ridge Brewing Company, a community partner, brings its fall beers, including the pumpkin beer Horror Business, to spots along the festival. Foodery at 6148 Ridge Avenue stocks craft beer and seasonal slushies to go. Peck Miller’s pours its Jell-O shots and doubles as the after party, and the Top of the Ridge Bar is a festival bar.
The Art on the Ridge Marketplace anchors the maker side, and the vendor list runs past 60 names, including Trippie Times, Philadelphia Candle Co., Rebel Potters and Macramaybee. Several of those makers also show at Art on the Ridge Gallery, the permanent storefront on the same avenue.
Why Roxtoberfest 2026 Works as an Oktoberfest
Philadelphia has bigger beer parties, like the Brauhaus Schmitz Oktoberfest and Manayunk’s Love City Oktoberfest. Roxborough isn’t chasing them. The pitch is closer to a block party that happens to have a stein contest, and nobody has to buy a ticket to find out.
Fourteen years in, Roxtoberfest 2026 works for the same reason it did in 2013: the people who run the shops, the clinics and the civic groups are standing on the street themselves. You can’t fake that with a bigger lineup. For one free Saturday a year, Ridge Avenue gets to be the place its neighbors say it is.
