The Fat Lady Sings and Late Night Snacks

With the Fringe Festival 2019 officially over with last night’s Feastival and its hosts of chef and acrobats under one big top at Cherry Street Pier, it will be up to Opera Philadelphia and, and its O19 to carry the weight weird fest-dom through this weekend. And while they do that most assuredly with world and local premiere operas this weekend, such as Joseph Keckler’s “Let Me Die,” Handel’s “Semele,” and “For the Love of Three Oranges” – to say nothing of its own beer, OPA – some of Philly opera’s best friends and closest associates will appear as part of the long-running Late Night Snacks and its curated garage shows nestled between the Italian Market, Cheesesteak Vegas and the East Passyunk restaurant block.

Held at 1316 South Percy Street and curated by John Jarboe’s Bearded Ladies since the beginning of the Fringe, Late Night Snacks has been the secret weapon in the arsenal of the avant-garde that is the Fringe and Opera Philadelphia combined. With the Fringe over, however, it is, O19’s chance to shine, along with a handful of mad fringe stragglers.

Here’s the lineup – expect to stay up late.
