If you’re craving a culinary adventure filled with bold flavors and rich cultural influences, consider Chef Diana Widjojo’s exciting pop-up, Rice & Sambal, at Dankbaar on East Passyunk Avenue. With a reputation that precedes her as an acclaimed chef and a James Beard nominee, Chef Diana Widjojo is all set to delight food lovers with her vibrant Indonesian concept throughout August 2023.

Dankbaar, the Dutch BYO at 1911 East Passyunk Avenue, is taking a brief hiatus in August, making way for the Chef’s Rice & Sambal pop-up. Chef Diana Widjojo, formerly of the Hardena restaurant, combines traditional Indonesian flavors with a modern twist.

Having grown up in New York City, Chef Diana Widjojo found her passion for Indonesian cuisine and culture. Rice & Sambal is her way of sharing authentic flavors and traditions with the world, making Philadelphia the ideal stage for this culinary journey.

Chef Diana Widjojo has thoughtfully prepared two Vegan Rijsttafel Nights on Thursday, August 10, and Thursday, August 24, for those embracing a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle. These nights will feature a delightful spread of plant-based dishes that will tantalize your taste buds.

Friday and Saturday nights at Dankbaar will be an exquisite culinary journey as diners indulge in Widjojo’s “Mini Rijsttafel.” The dining experience features six sharable entrees and a delightful dessert. With two seatings at 5:30 pm and 8 pm, guests can savor a mouthwatering selection that includes Nasi Uduk, Sambals, Rendang Bitterballen, Ikan Balado, Lawar Ayam, Tongseng, and Tempe Bakar. For dessert, relish the delightful Kueh Putri Ayu Ubi Ungu, a steamed purple sweet potato cupcake with shredded coconut and rum sauce.

Prepare for a unique and pandemic-famous treat on Sundays as Chef Diana Widjojo presents “Not Pizza.” This clever take on the Rijsttafel meal became a sensation during the pandemic. Served in a classic pizza box, it’s perfect for takeaway or restaurant enjoyment. Each Not Pizza box offers approximately 18-20 different foods, serving up to four people, and is priced at $120 (tax included). Not Pizza will have you covered for those who prefer vegan, vegetarian, or mixed protein options. Book your Not Pizza experience via Rice & Sambal’s Instagram page.
