Lionel Osmin and Cie Wines Bring Southwest France to Philadelphia

French restaurant Townsend will host a one-night-only French wine pairing dinner featuring Lionel Osmin and Cie on Thursday, September 4 at 6 p.m. Renowned for their work “reinventing the French Southwest,” Lionel Osmin and Cie will be represented by winemaker Clément Gaspard, who will personally guide guests through the evening’s curated pours.

This special event brings together the soulful essence of Southwest France and the refined culinary artistry of Chef Alex Nissley in a four-course menu designed to showcase harmonious pairings. Guests will begin with a Steelhead Trout Crudo accented by Green Meadows peaches and a Lionel Osmin and Cie rosé espuma—a delicate start with a nuanced nod to seasonal freshness. The second course features Jumbo Lump Crab Tortellini with Basque peppers and a fragrant basil pistou, with an optional summer truffle add-on for the indulgent palate.

As the evening progresses, diners will be treated to a show-stopping Duet of Beef featuring bone marrow oxtail, chanterelles en cocotte, and Castelvetrano olive focaccia, followed by a luxurious Hudson Valley Duck Breast paired with crispy potato pavé and peppery sauce au poivré. Optional foie gras upgrades offer additional depth and richness for the true gourmand.

The dessert course—featuring Tomme de chèvre, a refined chocolate truffle, and Croquants de Cordes—beautifully rounds out the journey, marrying tradition with contemporary flair. Each course is perfectly matched with selections from Lionel Osmin and Cie, whose mission to modernize and honor the distinct terroir of the French Southwest aligns beautifully with Townsend’s own dedication to French culinary heritage.

This intimate dinner offers an expertly guided wine pairing experience for $55 in addition to the $75 prix fixe dinner. All wines are carefully selected by Gaspard, providing guests with the opportunity to explore the subtle, expressive range of Lionel Osmin and Cie’s portfolio in an elegant, personal setting.

Reservations are required and can be made through Resy. Whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or simply curious to explore French wines off the beaten path, this evening will be a standout event in Philadelphia’s fall culinary calendar.
