The Buttery Bryn Mawr

The Buttery Bryn Mawr Opens June 13 with a Lemon Kouign Amann You Won’t Find Anywhere Else

The Buttery Bryn Mawr opens June 13 at 836 W. Lancaster Avenue with an exclusive lemon poppy kouign amann, giveaways all opening weekend, and the full all-day menu that made the Malvern flagship a destination.

The Buttery Bryn Mawr opens on Saturday, June 13, at 836 W. Lancaster Avenue — bringing the café’s all-day menu, seasonal kitchen, and sourdough program to the Main Line for the first time. The new space seats 82 indoors and runs daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an opening weekend that includes something exclusive you will not find at the Malvern flagship.

That something is a lemon poppy kouign amann — a grand opening pastry debuting only in Bryn Mawr, available while supplies last. Layers of house-made poppy seed spread and lemon sugar are folded into croissant dough, baked into sweet, zesty pockets, then finished with a bright lemon glaze and candied lemon. If you are going on June 13, this is the order.

The space sits on the Main Line’s primary commercial corridor with 82 indoor seats, a rear parking lot entrance directly behind the café, and additional off-street parking available. The service model follows the Malvern playbook: order at the counter and settle in while your meal is delivered to the table.

The kitchen runs full lunch service through 3 p.m. daily. After that, pastries, sourdough loaves, coffee, tea, and grab-and-go items — including prepared lunches and pantry staples — carry the café through its 5 p.m. close. Dinner service and a liquor license are in the pipeline; in the meantime, guests can catch an evening meal at The Buttery’s Malvern location, open for dinner Thursday through Sunday.

Opening Weekend: Exclusive Pastry and Giveaways

The lemon poppy kouign amann is the headline, but the opening weekend lineup extends beyond it. The first 50 customers each day receive a branded tote bag. The first 100 each day get a signature sea salt sable cookie. Both giveaways run on Saturday and Sunday, resetting each morning — the café opens at 7 a.m., and early arrival is the strategy.

The exclusive kouign amann is only available at The Buttery Bryn Mawr during grand opening weekend, while pastries last. Once it is gone, it is gone — no confirmed plans to carry it at the Malvern location or beyond.

The Menu: From Turkish Eggs to Al Taglio Pizza

Pastries anchor the program year-round — croissants, scones, muffins, cookies, cakes, tarts, and artisan breads available across all services, alongside sourdough loaves baked in house. The coffee program runs through Passenger Coffee, with a full espresso menu and tea service. House-made granola and bagels round out the morning counter.

Breakfast stretches from lighter plates — avocado toast, yogurt with house-made granola — to more substantial ones: quiche, Turkish eggs, and a harissa bacon egg and cheese sandwich. The kitchen sources seasonally and works with local farms and purveyors wherever the menu allows, grounding the daily rotation in what is actually available and in its best moment.

Lunch rotates through sandwiches on house-baked bread, seasonal salads, grain bowls, tartines, and al taglio pizza. Co-owner John Rhoads built the brand around “creating spaces where people can gather, connect and feel at home,” and the menu reflects that: approachable enough to visit daily, considered enough to feel like something more than a habit.

The Bryn Mawr opening adds a strong new entry to the region’s café and dining scene, which has been filling in steadily across Philadelphia’s broader food calendar over the past few years. The full-day format — order at the counter, meals delivered to the table, pastries and coffee until 5 p.m. — suits a neighborhood that wants a room worth returning to.

What Comes Next for The Buttery

The Buttery Bryn Mawr is the first location outside Malvern, and it will not be the last. A Northern Liberties location is planned for later in 2026, with further expansion anticipated in 2027. Dinner service and a liquor license are slated to follow the Bryn Mawr grand opening in the months ahead, adding an evening dimension to the all-day program already in place.

The full menu, hours, and story for both locations live at malvernbuttery.com. June 13 is the opening day — 836 W. Lancaster Avenue, Bryn Mawr, doors at 7 a.m.
