“Our Genre is Philly” – Philadelphia’s 2021 Philly Music Fest goes indoors, again, for season five.
In what is shaping up to be the fastest ever appropriation of C-19’s post quarantine mantra of “indoor staging, indoor staging, indoor staging,” the annual Philly Music Fest is taking advantage of the haste and has booked its fifth-year event, and started selling tickets as of May 14.
The October 6 through October 10 local music festival, all for the good of raising needed monies for youth music education programs, will welcome 19 bands in six separate showcases across five nights in five different venues, under the banner “Our Genre is Philly.”
The lineup includes Philly indie giants such as: Moor Mother, The Menzingers, Alex G, Hop Along, Ivy.Sole, Son Little, Spirit of the Beehive, Control Top, Queen of Jeans, Moses Mosima, Barney Cortez, Irreversible Entanglements, Stella Ruze, Highnoon, Moor Jewelry, the West Philadelphia Orchestra, Annonxl, Lunch, Kelsey Cork and The Swigs. Host venues include Ardmore Music Hall, World Café Live, Johnny Brenda’s, Milkboy and REC Philly.
There is one panel discussion event planned for October 7. Philly Music Fest’s Tech Tour at Guru Technologies to discuss startup, venture capital and tech topics, as well as another panel chat, Inside Hustle, at WCL on October 9, focused on local music industry professionals tackling the business, life and industry of being and staying a Philly musician.
Philly Music Fest founder and curator Greg Seltzer, wrote in a prepared statement, “The growth of PMF, from two shows and one venue to six shows and five venues is a testament to the strength and passion of our local music community.”
