Fairmount Park Conservancy is throwing a free, one-night celebration on Friday, October 16, from 7 to 9 PM, and this one comes with fireworks. Play for Parks takes over the John Welsh Memorial Fountain in West Fairmount Park with live music, food and drinks from local vendors, and a fireworks finale at 8:50 PM, all built around thanking the city for five years of park investment.

West Philly native Chill Moody headlines the night with Moody’s Klubbhouse, backed by a house band led by Hiruy Tirfe, for 90 minutes of live music hosted and curated by Chill himself, along with special guests. Growing up in West Philly, Chill said, the parks were always part of his life, and still are, having hosted cookouts and events there that brought people together and made the city feel like home.

Mayor Parker Receives the John K. Binswanger Park Champion Award

The evening also honors Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker with the Conservancy’s John K. Binswanger Park Champion Award, recognizing her leadership on parks throughout her public service career and her role on the Fair Play Campaign committee. Parker called the city’s commitment to being the safest, cleanest, and greenest big city in America something that comes to life in the parks every day, giving young people room to play, connect, and build confidence.

That commitment sits on top of real fundraising numbers. Over the past five years, the Conservancy’s Fair Play Campaign has drawn more than 2,700 donors toward strengthening park infrastructure, expanding public programs, and keeping the organization prepared to meet demand for generations of park users to come. Conservancy CEO Tony Sorrentino called the campaign’s completion proof of what’s possible when the city, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the Conservancy, and funders work as a public-private partnership rather than separately.

Play for Parks Headliner: Chill Moody

Chill Moody’s own résumé has grown alongside that civic profile. He currently serves as Philadelphia’s Music Ambassador and the inaugural Community Artist in Residence at the Mann Center, alongside his role as Senior Brand Strategist for the African American Chamber of Commerce of PA, NJ & DE. He’s also the founder of We Golf Now, a nonprofit expanding access to golf for Black and Brown youth, and the creator of Moody’s Klubbhouse itself, a live performance platform spotlighting emerging Philadelphia talent. A new album is set to follow in October 2026, landing the same month as this performance.

The event follows the Conservancy’s busy summer 2026 programming across the park system, continuing a run of free public events built to get more Philadelphians actually using the parks the campaign has spent five years funding. Play for Parks is supported by a long list of sponsors including Ballard Spahr, Tito’s Vodka, KPMG, TD Bank, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, with Power 99 and WDAS FM serving as media partners.

A mayor’s civic legacy and a hometown artist’s cultural one, honored on the same stage in the same 90 minutes, under fireworks paid for by five years of donor trust.
