In the course of the life of dosage MAGAZINE, I have had the occasion of speaking with Philadelphia rapper-vocalist PnB Rock several times and write about him and his R&B-based brand many more. The guy had a vision of who he was from his start and what he wanted his music to be in the future – so much so, that he recently left his home of six years, the Atlantic/Warner Music Group label, and went independent with his initial self-release “Luv Me Again”, dropping on September 2.

On Monday afternoon, PnB Rock was robbed, shot and killed in Los Angeles at a downtown Waffle House. He was pronounced dead after being transported to LA County hospital. It was reported that this is not the first time that PnB was accosted for his jewelry and that his girlfriend’s social media messages directed the perps/killers to Rock’s location.

He deserved better.

No sooner than the news went out that he had been shot, social media snapped to attention with everyone from Juicy J, Denzel Curry, Muni Long and CHIKA sending good vibes and messages of condolence. Rap podcaster Akademiks jumped onto Twitter early on to write “Wow.. this PNB Rock situation crazy. I just did a interview with him a week ago where he detailed how someone tried to rob him in LA recently while he was out with his girlfriend and daughter. Now.. this.. smh. Pray for PNB Rock.”

Not everyone was quite so sensitive to the situation. The usually scabrous TMZ website posted a gruesome video of a bleeding PnB immediately following the gunplay. Don’t be a voyeur and give them hits.

Remember PnB Rock the very best way possible. Hit up his new music. Go back to his breakout single, “Selfish”. Pray.
