Semi Q Red & White Blends for America’s 250th

Turks Head Wines releases the Semi Q Red Blend ($55) and Semi Q White Blend ($45) — limited to 250 cases each — commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. Available April 23.

Turks Head Wines is releasing two limited-edition Sonoma County blends to mark America’s 250th anniversary, and the Semi Q Red Blend and Semi Q White Blend are exactly the kind of commemorative bottles that deserve a spot on the shelf rather than a polite pass. Only 250 cases of each have been produced.

The Semi Q Red Blend is $55 and the Semi Q White Blend is $45, both available starting April 23 at the Turks Head Bottle Shoppe in West Chester, online with direct-to-consumer shipping to 36 states, and at the Claymont, Delaware, Total Wine and More location. For wine collectors and anyone looking for a meaningful Semiquincentennial gift, the limited run makes these bottles worth securing before the cases are gone.

The Semi Q Red Blend Tasting Profile

The Semi Q Red Blend is a commemorative bottling crafted from Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon at 14.2 percent ABV. The nose opens with layered aromatics of black cherry, cedar, sage, leather, and cigar box. On the palate, the wine is structured and dynamic with Luxardo cherry and sanguine peach alongside savory elements of fresh pine, coconut, and sappy undertones. A distinct gravelly tannin gives texture and grip without drying the palate, and the finish is lifted by fresh acidity that carries across both the front and back palate, leaving a balanced and persistent impression. This is a red blend built for the drinker who appreciates structure and complexity over immediate fruit-forward sweetness.

The Semi Q White Blend Tasting Profile

The Semi Q White Blend is a bright, mineral-driven expression crafted from Sauvignon Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne, and Sémillon at 13.4 percent ABV. The nose is lifted and aromatic with honeydew, melon, honeysuckle, crushed white flowers, and wet stone. The palate is vibrant and layered, showing Honeycrisp apple, mint, and sage alongside a distinct saline minerality reminiscent of crushed rock and pink Himalayan sea salt. Bright, driving acidity carries across the mid-palate with a lightly chalky texture, and the finish is long and persistent with lemon-lime zest and a clean edge. The inclusion of Melon de Bourgogne — a grape rarely seen in California blends — gives the Semi Q White a character that most Semiquincentennial releases will not match.

The Story Behind Turks Head Wines and the Semi Q Label

Turks Head Wines is the creation of Allison Owen, a Level 3 Certified Sommelier and Certified Wine Instructor who left the corporate world to build a winery that sources, produces, and bottles handcrafted Bordeaux-style wines in Napa, California, and brings them to an elevated tasting room and wine lounge in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The brand’s name honors the historic Turks Head Tavern, established in 1762, which played a foundational role in the early formation of West Chester — locals described where they lived as “near the Turks Head” and the town eventually adopted the name. The Semi Q label features a patriotic red and blue interpretation of the brand’s signature gold sailor’s knot logo.

Owen framed the Semi Q releases through the lens of how this country was shaped around tables — in conversation, in community, and over wine. The Founding Fathers gathered in taverns raising glasses of Madeira and Claret as they debated the nation’s future, and with the Turks Head tasting room located just outside Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, celebrating the milestone through wine felt natural. Philadelphia-area beverage brands are getting ready for the Semiquincentennial. The Semi Q releases add a premium wine entry to a conversation that has been dominated by craft beer and spirits.

The Semi Q Red Blend and Semi Q White Blend are available beginning April 23 at the Turks Head Bottle Shoppe at 120 Church Street in West Chester, online at turksheadwines.com.
