Reuben “Big Rube” Harley has spent close to two decades pointing a camera at other people, Philadelphia’s street style, its hip-hop culture, its faces. On October 15, The Red Lipstick Diaries turns that lens back around, with the city gathering at The Stable at Crane Arts to spend an evening looking at him instead. It’s a rare kind of role reversal for a photographer whose whole career has been about capturing everyone else.

The Red Lipstick Diaries Showcases Harley’s “Lipheele” Collection

The exhibition centers on Harley’s “Lipheele” collection, transforming The Stable into a luxury lounge for one night, complete with curator discussions and fashion and beauty collaborations built around the work itself. Doors run 6 to 9:30 PM, with prints from the collection available for purchase throughout the evening. It’s a genuinely unusual format for an artist’s own benefit, less folding table and cash box, more actual curated show.

Harley’s résumé reads like three careers stitched into one. He chronicled Philadelphia’s street-fashion scene as a columnist and photographer for the Philadelphia Daily News from 2011 to 2017, while building a name in marketing that helped turn Mitchell & Ness into a global apparel phenomenon, all alongside a parallel career in the city’s culinary scene.

It’s the kind of career that doesn’t fit neatly on a business card, which is part of why Philadelphia has always paid attention to him. His social following has grown past 15,000 largely on the strength of that same instinct, an eye for beauty and style that reads as genuinely his own rather than borrowed from any single lane.

The Red Lipstick Diaries Supports Harley’s Ongoing Medical Care

Harley is currently facing serious medical expenses, and proceeds from print sales at the exhibition go directly toward his ongoing care. Sunrise Social ran its own benefit menu for Harley earlier this year, and October 15 marks the first of three planned nights the city will spend supporting his work in 2026, with a community engagement activation planned for November and a holiday pop-up shopping experience in December.

Presented by Miss Mahogany LLC and RMW Marketing, The Red Lipstick Diaries joins Crane Arts’ own recent run of Philadelphia art programming as the latest reason to make the trip to Cadwallader Street.
