Bart’s Bagels Bala Cynwyd opens Saturday, August 1, at 273 Montgomery Avenue — a third location for the Philadelphia-born bagel bakehouse, and one with a personal history behind it. Co-owners and brothers Brett and Kyle Frankel grew up in Bala Cynwyd, and the new shop sits in the former home of Tony Roni’s, the pizza parlor where they hung out after school as kids.
The Homecoming Behind Bart’s Bagels Bala Cynwyd
Brett Frankel called the opening “full-circle to bring Bart’s Bagels to our hometown.” Kyle Frankel put it more simply: “It’s good to be home.” The brothers founded Bart’s Bagels in West Philadelphia in 2020, before opening a second location in South Philadelphia’s Italian Market/Bella Vista area in 2024. Bala Cynwyd marks their first location outside the city, and the first built specifically around their own childhood neighborhood.

What’s on the Menu at Bart’s Bagels Bala Cynwyd
The Bala Cynwyd menu matches Bart’s other locations: more than 10 bagel varieties, kettle-boiled, slowly cold-fermented, and baked on burlap boards, developed with Culinary Director Chef Ron Silverberg. House-whipped cream cheeses, house-smoked meats, and premium smoked fish round out a lineup built around breakfast and lunch sandwiches, including the Uncle Leo — Nova smoked salmon, fried egg, scallion cream cheese, and caramelized onion — and the Tuna Chip, loaded with tuna salad, lettuce, tomato, onion, Muenster, crushed potato chips, and pepper relish.
Cream cheeses, chicken salad, tuna salad, smoked salmon salad, and whitefish salad are all made in-house and sold by the half pound, alongside smoked salmon packs for retail purchase. A specialty bagel and cream cheese rotate monthly around seasonal ingredients, and coffee, espresso, and cold brew come from local partner Elixr Coffee.

Bart’s Bagels Bala Cynwyd Joins a Growing Main Line Food Scene
The former Tony Roni’s space has been reworked with a dedicated pickup counter for online orders, a separate counter for in-person ordering, and indoor seating for up to 20 guests across limited tables and a standing dining rail. Bart’s Bagels Bala Cynwyd is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with dine-in, pickup, delivery through Bart’s own site plus DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, and catering available for pickup or delivery.
The opening lands in a stretch of the Main Line that’s added several new food destinations this summer, including ANEU Kitchens’ fifth location at Suburban Square and Pomelo’s new rooftop terrace in Radnor, giving Bala Cynwyd another reason to draw visitors from across the surrounding towns.
