Philly’s own Daryl Hall and John Oates hometown celebration of music, food and culture, HoagieNation returns to the Mann at Fairmount Park.

Just in time for your Delta summer to commence (just wear a mask and everything will be fine), Philly’s own Daryl Hall and John Oates, together with Live Nation Philadelphia, bring their locally-grown and Philadelphia only HoagieNation 2021 – a celebration of music, food and culture – to the Mann at Fairmount Park on Saturday, August 7 with very special guests Squeeze, Kool and The Gang, the Wailers, Craig Robinson and the Nasty Delicious, The Soul Survivors and Down North. If you have tickets from the 2020 date canceled by Covid, those will be valid at this event.

HoagieNation holds two stages of live music at The Presser Foundation Stage at the TD Pavilion at the Mann as well as the Skyline Stage at the Mann. Add that to what is being called Philly-based food favorites and culture – Hoagie Pavilion with free hoagie tastings for all attendees from Real Philly Delis as part of “Hoagie Happy Hour” presented by Dietz and Watson, and the culinary part of this sounds as funky as what is promised, musically.

Once upon a time, for the first HoagieNation, I spoke to Hall and Oates about their meaty predilections. And while Hall once told this very writer that he still eats the local delicacy of “Lebanon bologna” daily, even though he lives in Connecticut (you had to wonder if Oates will be pigging out during HoagieNation), Oates seems to go for lighter fare.

“As I have gotten older, I have to try to avoid the heavier foods, but, I just saw the menu for the fest, and the newer hoagies look and sound so damn good, I may have to do a tasting,” he said. “Maybe I can take a bite of each one there and get some wrapped to take home with me to Nashville.” John. It’s your HoagieNation. You can take home whatever you want.

Along with Hall and Oates playing their favorites, I am a Squeeze fanatic who looks forward to any show the UK pop act can bring. And comedian-singer-keyboardist Craig Robinson is a triple threat whose prowess on the synth cannot be ignored.
