Kindred the Family Soul is holding a combination live gig and old school roller skating party at Camden, New Jersey’s Millenium Skate World to film visuals for their soon-to-be-released Auntie & Unc album.
Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon – the post-soul, nu-R&B Kindred the Family Soul – have forever been Philadelphia’s royal couple. Married and unified musically and spiritually, Kindred the Family Soul has been a star part of this city’s funky firmament since 2003’s Surrender to Love LP, all this after Dantzler and Graydon played crucial roles in the development of Philly’s hip hop and R&B traditions as studio and session musicians.
So renowned for being together is Dantzler, Graydon, and their children, that they were the largest part of Walmart’s 2015 national advertising campaign, Walmart Family Gatherings. Of their union, Dantzler once told me that, “It’s funny… People might not have gotten us, at the start… they weren’t married, didn’t have kids.” As time moves forward, and young bucks get grown and sexy, Kindred the Family Soul makes more sense, and begins to move you. From 2016’s Legacy Of Love and their interview and live performing series Kindred Presents, through to the present, Kindred the Family Soul have always been Philly’s soul comfort zone. Blissed-out. Grooving. Loving.
Interestingly, there’s a new Kindred the Family Soul album out imminently, Auntie & Unc, that’s got some daring, risqué edges to its grooves and is on autograph-copy pre-order at the fam’s website.
To prepare promo for that new Auntie & Unc album, and to film a fresh set of music videos to accompany its singles with a live crowd, Kindred the Family Soul is holding a combination live gig and old school roller skating party at Camden, New Jersey’s Millenium Skate World (1900 Carman Street) at 7 pm, on Thursday, May 6. Masks are required, and all are welcome. But Kindred the Family Soul’s Dantzler and Graydon are hoping for the over-30s to show up to bolster that grown and sexy vibe.
