Ten years in, Mt. Joy still can’t seem to stay out of the city’s biggest cultural moments, and the band’s own hometown anniversary show almost feels like an afterthought next to what it’s pulled off this year.
The Mt. Joy Freedom Mortgage Pavilion date lands September 25, 2026, a bigger stage than the two sold-out nights the band played at The Mann last September, marking a full decade for a band that’s never actually left the region it came from.
Mt. Joy’s Philly Moments Keep Going Viral
Start with the Jason Kelce collaboration, because everyone else did. In 2024, frontman Matt Quinn teamed up with the Philly Specials to rework Mt. Joy’s “Astrovan” into a holiday single, trading verses with Kelce and pulling off a surprise pop-up concert outside Lincoln Financial Field where Kelce joined the band onstage.
The whole thing got captured in the official music video, and it’s exactly the kind of crossover that doesn’t happen for bands that treat Philadelphia as just another tour stop.
That wasn’t even the only moment. Quinn’s solo set at Philly Music Fest brought out Devon Gilfillian, Snacktime, and Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata for a performance of “Valerie” that got real enough that Good Morning America covered it.
Two separate Philly-culture crossovers in one calendar year is a genuinely strange thing for a touring rock band to pull off, and it only really makes sense once you know where Quinn and co-founder Sam Cooper actually come from.
The Mt. Joy Freedom Mortgage Pavilion Show Ties Back to the Region
Both are Conestoga High School graduates out of Chester County, and Quinn moved back to settle in Olde Kensington after the band formed out west in LA. That’s not a detail bands usually lead with once they’ve made it, but it explains a lot about why Mt. Joy keeps building its biggest nights around Philadelphia specifically rather than treating a hometown show as a courtesy stop between bigger cities.
It also shows up in how the band spends its money. Mt. Joy is donating $1 per ticket sold at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion to local nonprofits facing the greatest financial need, continuing a practice that’s raised more than $700,000 for partners since 2022 through ticket donations, benefit concerts, and merch collaborations, supporting groups including the ACLU, Family Reach, local food banks, children’s hospitals, and brain cancer research tied to their single “Lucy.”
That giving didn’t slow down after their latest album, Hope We Have Fun, either. The band raised nearly $500,000 for local charities across every city it toured through in 2025, and the Camden show brings back a non-perishable food drive with Sharing Excess, the same Philly-based partner that worked both Mann shows the year before.
Mt. Joy’s Decade by the Numbers
The stats back up the trajectory: founded in 2016, over half a billion streams globally, a quarter million tickets sold worldwide, and two number-one AAA radio hits in “Lemon Tree” and “Silver Lining.” NPR, Yahoo!, and WXPN have all tagged them as artists to watch, with write-ups in Rolling Stone, Variety, Paste, and The Guardian, and TV stops on Kimmel, Colbert, Corden, and Austin City Limits.
Three studio albums and a 2021 live record from Red Rocks fill out the catalog behind Quinn, Cooper, Sotiris Eliopoulos, Jackie Miclau, and Michael Byrnes. Presale for the Mt. Joy Freedom Mortgage Pavilion show opens December 2, with general on-sale following December 5 at the venue itself.
Plenty of bands hit double digits and mark the occasion by playing somewhere bigger, somewhere else. Mt. Joy is marking ten years by playing somewhere bigger, closer to home, with a food drive and a nonprofit check attached to the ticket price. That’s the part of this anniversary worth paying attention to.
