James Oliver Gallery invites art enthusiasts and fans of nostalgia to the opening of Parallel Recollections, a two-person exhibition featuring the distinctive works of Stevie Chris and Steven Mogck.

The Parallel Recollections gallery exhibit is a refreshing exploration into the depths of nostalgic recollection. It offers viewers life-size vignettes of iconographic pop culture bits from yesterday that bounce off its canvas into the viewer’s realm. These hyper-rendered pieces beckon the audience into a dreamlike involvement, triggering a delightful sense of déjà vu that is both engaging and illusory.

Stevie Chris, an editorial photographer with a penchant for the personal practice of dignifying the everyday memento, lays the foundation for this exhibition’s theme. Through image construction, Chris achieves a fascinating depth and dimension in his work, magnifying objects such as vintage candy and toys to produce fantastic results. His unique method of focus stacking multiple frames of an object sculpts images that transcend traditional photographic boundaries, inviting viewers into a world of enhanced wonder.

Steven Mogck brings his illustrations to life with a whimsical nod to nostalgia, crafting a narrative that intertwines with Chris’s visual stories. Mogck, whose professional work has adorned various publications and storyboards, including the celebrated “Empire,” presents a commentary on pop culture consumption through his art. His selected work pays homage to gaming culture, pivotal moments in music history, and novelty objects, employing a hyperfocused pictorial reproduction that complements Chris’s photographic adventures.
