Philadelphia Halloween 2026: Haunted Bars, Ghost Chocolates and a Zoo Full of Pumpkins

Philadelphia Halloween 2026 means haunted speakeasies, Boo at the Zoo, a six-course Hallow’s Eve dinner and ghost-story chocolates.

Philadelphia Halloween 2026 is made from the city’s own stories. A speakeasy borrows Edgar Allan Poe, a candy shop turns local ghost sightings into chocolate, a tavern garden tells Yellow Fever tales, and a Headhouse Square bar keeps a resident ghost. Here is where to find all of it, with dates and prices as the venues gave them. We have also covered Halloween Nights at Eastern State separately.

Haunted Bars and Speakeasies for Philadelphia Halloween 2026

Newsroom Philadelphia has turned its book-lined speakeasy at 1102 Germantown Avenue in Northern Liberties into The Pumpkin Press, open through at least November 1. The six-week takeover blends Washington Irving’s Headless Horseman with Poe’s Philadelphia years, and it anchors Philadelphia Halloween 2026 for anyone who wants a drink with a plot. General manager Alicia Gray says guests can “step inside a darker side of fall.” Reservations are strongly encouraged on Resy.

The drinks bring the “boo”. The Headless Horseman is a smoky mezcal cocktail served in a large smoker, Moon Over Sleepy Hollow is a shimmering pomegranate vodka drink, and the Pumpkin Spice Old Fashioned comes with a pumpkin-shaped ice cube. The Raven’s Cauldron is a rum cocktail for four, presented with a dry-ice cauldron. Weekly programming runs from Wine Down Wednesdays to bottomless Sunday brunch.

Poe spent six years in Philadelphia, and about a year of it, 1843 to 1844, in the house now run as a National Park Service historic site. That house is closed for a utilities project right now, which makes the bar the nearest place to meet him this month.

In Old City, The Garden at City Tavern is adding spooky Friday happy hours on October 16 and 23 from 5 to 7 p.m., with DJ MO’NAE spinning what the garden calls colonial remixes. On Saturdays, October 17 and 24, John Adams appears, and History Makers tell Yellow Fever stories.

New drinks at the garden include Widow’s Tea, a warm vodka and black tea cocktail, and Blood Moon, a vodka, ginger and grenadine drink, at $12 each. Beers are $9, including a pumpkin cider. October hours are Friday 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday noon to 9 and Sunday noon to 8, a schedule that makes Philadelphia Halloween 2026 easy to fit around a weekend walk through Old City.

Also in Old City, Sassafras holds Samhain in the Street on Halloween night itself.

The Twisted Tail in Headhouse Square starts its Halloween on Friday, October 30, with a free kids’ pumpkin carving and painting event at 4 and 5 p.m., limited to 15 children per session with a ticket for each. Saturday, October 31, brings the Haunted House of Blues from 8 to 11:30 p.m., with live blues from Abby Lee, a costume contest and cocktails such as the Midnight Howl and Devil at the Crossroads.

The building brings its own material. General manager Colleen Madden says she once saw a boy in a striped shirt dart up the stairs toward the attic, and her colleague described him before she finished the sentence. Our look at last year’s Halloween party there gives the background.

Love City Brewing has three nights planned. Fire and Spice at the Callowhill taproom on Saturday, October 17, from 4 to 10 p.m. offers beer flips, fire pits, s’mores and fire performers, and it is free to enter. On October 30 and 31 from 7 p.m. to midnight, the taproom becomes a funhouse maze that ends at a secret speakeasy, free and 21 and over.

Manayunk hosts an adult trick-or-treat on Saturday, October 31, with $6 surprise drinks pulled from pumpkin buckets, horror movies on the TVs and costumes encouraged.

Red Owl Tavern at 422 Chestnut Street has teamed with Fernet-Branca for Bitter Treats, running through October 31, weeknights from 9 to 11 p.m. Four Fernet serves are on offer, including the Hard Start, half Fernet-Branca and half Brancamenta. Guests also play Pull, Match, Win by pulling five tabs, and three matching symbols win a prize.

Dinners and Sweets for Philadelphia Halloween 2026

On Tuesday, October 27, at 6 p.m., Harvest Seasonal Grill in Glen Mills serves Hallow’s Eve, a six-course dinner with names to match: The Pharaoh’s Heart, a prosciutto-wrapped fig, then The Lovecraft Salad with braised octopus and oyster mushrooms. Later courses include lamb lollipops, marshmallow-stuffed sweet potato skins, and Dracula’s Sweet Tooth, a pineapple upside-down red velvet cake. The same night, the Moorestown location hosts Pumpkins and Prosecco.

Hallow’s Eve costs $89 with cocktail and wine pairings or $65 without, with tax and gratuity due that night. It is 21 and over, prepaid through Resy or at 610-358-1005, and Harvest says no substitutions are available. Refunds close at noon three days before the dinner. Harvest’s usual seasonal approach gets a darker, funnier turn.

Shane Confectionery in Old City, which dates its start to 1863, asked Philadelphians for real ghost stories and built the Haunted Philadelphia box from them. It is the most literal piece of Philadelphia Halloween 2026. Only 125 were made, each holding seven pieces in pairs, an illustrated zine and a beeswax ghost candle from Philadelphia Bee Co.

One piece is a sparkling pate de fruit made with prosecco and popping sugar, and the flavors of the rest stay secret. The box contains nuts, dairy and alcohol.

Individual pieces from the collection are also sold in the chocolate case at 110 Market Street while supplies last, alongside Chocolate SEPTA Rats and a Memento Mori medallion. Check Shane’s Halloween page for the box. Next door, Franklin Fountain pairs the chocolates with a Great Pumpkin Sundae and a Caramel Apple Pie Shake.

Family Days for Philadelphia Halloween 2026

Philadelphia Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo runs on Saturdays and Sundays through November 1, plus Monday, October 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the zoo says it is the first time in the event’s history that it runs every weekend of October, which makes it the anchor for family Philadelphia Halloween 2026 plans. Trick-or-treating is the main attraction, with pumpkin feedings for animals from hippos to gorillas.

Costume contests run at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Impala Lawn, with prizes for first through third place.

New this year are Cryptic Creatures in the Small Mammal House, where Jersey Devil lore meets real wildlife, and tarot readings in the 1876 Tree House, now the Trick-or-Tree House. A decorated SEPTA train, the Boo Choo, rolls through the autumn color, and a Pherris Wheel offers views over the zoo’s 1,500 trees. Details are on the zoo’s Boo page, and the event is included with admission.

At Franklin Square, Spooky Mini Golf runs through November 1 with fog, strobe lights and, in the evenings, lowered lighting, according to Historic Philadelphia, Inc. The Pumpkin Patch on Saturday, October 17, lets kids 10 and under decorate a pumpkin for free from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Trick-or-Treat Street follows on October 24, and the Bark-or-Treat Trail on October 25 is for dogs in costume. We covered the square’s 20th birthday party in July.

Cherry Street Pier hosts PopUpPlay’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party on Saturday, October 31, with costumes, trick-or-treating, crafts and monster karaoke, plus a floats-and-balloons parade the kids help design. On Monday, October 26, King of Prussia Town Center holds its seventh free Trick or Treat Around the Town Center, with candy from participating shops, a live DJ and games on the green.

In Rittenhouse, Sandbox VR at 1712 Walnut Street has Deadwood Origins, a zombie adventure for groups of up to six friends, available now. The company lists general tickets from $55 on weekdays and $65 on weekends. We looked at how the Rittenhouse location works when it opened.

Halloweekend Nights for Philadelphia Halloween 2026

For Philadelphia Halloween 2026 nights beyond the city line, Hotel West and Main in Conshohocken throws a Halloween party on its plaza on October 31 from 4 to 10 p.m., with Feet First Dance performing from 4:30 to 5:30 and the band Krimson Cirkus playing from 4:30 to 6:30. Costumes are encouraged, and food and drinks come from 1874 Social and Hook & Ladder.

Farther out, comedy hypnotist Gary Conrad performs at Valley Forge Casino Resort that night, with doors at 6:30 p.m. and the show at 7:30. Across the river, Fintastic Pumpkin Glow at Adventure Aquarium runs through November 1.

By Halloween night, the air will have a bite, and the city will be dark early. Philadelphia Halloween 2026 is best taken one story at a time. Pick a door, a speakeasy, a brewery maze, or a candlelit table, and let Philadelphia tell you one of its own stories. The city has plenty of ghosts, and this October most of them have a seat saved for you.
