PNB Rock Tribute and Meek VS Ye

Philly hip hop, ups and downs, with Meek versus Ye and an A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie PNB Rock Tribute.

The Christmas holidays are normally a monster time for big record releases on the hip hop tip. 50 Cent, Eminem, Nicki Minaj. All have had some of their greatest albums drop days before Santa did. This year, however, in a year where Kanye West is sucking in all the oxygen, most rap release sheets are sitting out the holiday and holding out until early 2023. That, however, isn’t stopping some of Philly’s finest from making merry and making headlines.

On the quirky, funny, weird tip, there is the battle between Meek Mill and Kanye West that started after Ye’s play on the Clubhouse website for the music community over the weekend. Apparently, Kanye doesn’t think that Millie is celebrity enough to be on Clubhouse (no one should be, the site is bogus now), let alone be a part of a group of rappers that Kanye suggested were being rallied to reign him in during his last few weeks of crazy antisemitic rants.

“What made somebody think Meek Mill could say something to me?” said Kanye to the Clubhouse crowd on Saturday.

This led Meek, on Sunday, to jump on Twitter and tweet: “Twitter Sunday and wrote, “Never lost my mind for fame or money … I still have my family …my people respect me … I’m freeing people from prison… I’m doing community service all month with children up close and personal. I’m chilling wit my son and his friends today.. y’all on clubhouse at 50 lol.”
Nice burn. Point goes to Meek.

Then there is something more feel good and poignant than catty when it comes to another Philly rapper, the late, great PNB Rock.

Gunned down earlier this year during a robbery attempt in a Los Angeles Waffle House, the friends and fam of PNB Rock were deeply affected by his tragic murder – including fellow rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie who just honored Philly’s own with a new song, “Needed That.” The PNB Rock Tribute track appears now on the deluxe version of Da Hoodie’s just-released album, ME VS MYSELF.
