SIN Philadelphia brings the “vibe” as Northern Liberties’ new Steak Italian Nightlife venue.

No one would disagree with the fact that Northern Liberties and its Piazza is a long and already bustling enterprise. Yet, add in the brand-new condo complex, The Beverly, and its ground floor restaurant-nightclub, SIN Philadelphia, and NoLibs just tripled its wow factor by bringing luxe dining and drinking to the corner of N. 2nd Street and Germantown Avenue.

Concentrating on what co-owners and SIN Philadelphia partners Justin Veasey, Mike Connors, and William Muhr call “vibe dining,” the swank new location is based on the team’s feel for Miami, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas… an Italian steakhouse, homemade pasta, and entertainment venue, yes, but with attitude.

But all darkened 4,500 plus square feet of SIN, all of its black, white, silver, and grey accents, and its gorgeously backlit bar and lounge area would be nothing if they didn’t produce an equally elegant and intriguing menu. That’s where SIN Exec Chef Steven Kim (of Garces and Starr fame) and Sous Chef Eduardo Olarte come in.

Yes, it is fine Italian steakhouse dining, but with some very homey old-world touches. Like having a homemade pasta chef come to your tableside and create a swirl of fresh Cacio e pepe. Or turning out an original take on Chicken Marsala (now with Maitake mushroom and porcini butter) that tastes as good, if not better than what your grandmothers made.

Sipping a SIN Manhattan with sour cherries, the rest of the SIN menu was perfection. The classic Ceasar salads had just enough tang. The towering Eggplant Stack with confit tomato mozzarella and plenty of pesto tasted as great as it looked. And each steak – the SIN specialty from its name – from its buttery soft filets to its tender, textured rib eye, was fantastically juicy and done to rare perfection. And I insist you try SIN’s tiramisu before you head to the bar for a nightcap. It was like nothing I ever had in my life.

If SIN is bad for you, I don’t want to be good anytime soon.
