Tour de Love City brings bikes and brews together for a good cause on August 23, with Love City Brewing hosting a self-guided charity ride from its Callowhill flagship to its newly opened Manayunk taproom. Every dollar from the $25 ticket price benefits Neighborhood Bike Works, the West Philadelphia nonprofit that gives young Philadelphians equitable access to bicycling and bike repair.

How the Tour de Love City Ride Works

Riders check in at Love City’s Callowhill location (1023 Hamilton St) anytime between noon and 3 p.m., with a Love City beer and a slice from Viva Pizzas available beforehand for anyone fueling up. From there, the roughly eight-mile route follows Kelly Drive at each rider’s own pace toward Love City Manayunk, the brewery’s newest location on Main Street.

Co-founder Melissa Walter said the ride reflects what the brewery is about at its core: “At the core of Love City is our love of great beer and our desire to support our community.” Riders have until 7 p.m. to check in at Manayunk before the afterparty gets underway.

What Riders Get at the Tour de Love City Afterparty

Finishers receive a medal and their choice of a free beer — Love City Lager, Eraserhood IPA, or the new limited-release Dream Build West Coast Pilsner — or a non-alcoholic option like the Low-Key Golden Ale or IPA. Additional drinks and BBQ from on-site partner Sophie’s BBQ are available pay-as-you-go through the afterparty, which runs until 8 p.m. with a DJ, bike vendors, and beer specials.

Ticketholders are also entered into raffle drawings for Love City merch and bike-related prizes from Kayuh Bicycles and Trek Bicycle Philadelphia Manayunk, and Trek is offering free basic safety checks — brakes, shifting, tires — in the two weeks leading up to the ride.

The Tour de Love City Leads Into Cycling Classic Weekend

The timing is deliberate: Tour de Love City lands exactly one week before the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, and Love City’s Manayunk taproom is keeping the momentum going with its own Cycling Classic watch party on August 30, serving coffee, beer-mosas, Bloody Marys, and breakfast sandwiches from 8:30 a.m., with the brewery’s windows doubling as a front-row seat for racers speeding down Main Street.

However you spend the day — pedaling the whole route, meeting friends at the finish line, or just showing up for the afterparty — Tour de Love City is the kind of low-pressure, feel-good outing Philadelphia does especially well: good beer, a good cause, and a good excuse to spend a Sunday outside with people who love the city as much as you do.
