Daryl Hall to Release a Solo Retrospective Album

Philly’s Daryl Hall goes solo with his upcoming retrospective, “BeforeAfter”, and comes home with Todd Rundgren in April for a show at The Met.

Whether it is through its Hoagie Nation/Live Nation partnership, or any number of Atlantic City casino shows, an appearance from Philly’s own Daryl Hall and John Oates is a welcome experience when it comes to Philly’s spring and summer months, a cool usual.

That’s why this morning’s announcement, that Pottstown native Daryl Hall would go it alone, sans Oates, is so special and rare. On April 1, courtesy Legacy Recordings, Daryl Hall will release “BeforeAfter”, a first-ever all-Hall solo retrospective, including songs with (and, on albums from) Robert Fripp (Exposure, Sacred Songs), along with additional albums such as Can’t Stop Dreaming, Soul Alone, and 3 Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine.

Included in the package, is a wealth of previously unreleased songs recorded for homebody Hall’s long-running live music, lifestyle and performance series “Live From Daryl’s House.” This includes a duet with Upper Darby’s Todd Rundgren on Runt’s “Can We Still Be Friends,” The Eurythmics’ “Here Comes the Rain” with Dave Stewart and many additional rare tunes. To that end, Hall told Variety, “I see ‘Live From Daryl’s House’ as much a part of my body of work as any of my recorded albums I’ve done.”

On the same date that the BeforeAfter disc collection drops, Daryl Hall will embark on his first solo tour in ten years, with a hometown show, co-starring old friend and one-time producer Todd Rundgren, at The Met Philadelphia on April 9. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 28th at 10 AM ET on livenation.com. This shit will sell out.

The tracklist to “BeforeAfter” is below. Anyone who doesn’t know Daryl’s solo work, especially the harsh-mellowing Fripp-era stuff, get to the pre-orders. And request “You Burn Me Up like a Cigarette” when they hit town in April.
