The Dirty Rocks Cocktail Competition returns to Fringe Bar on Sunday, August 2, 3 to 7:30pm — nine Philadelphia bartenders, one core spirit, and a crowd that gets to actually decide who wins. Founder Leighton Phillips built Dirty Rocks around mixology-driven networking, and this event leans fully into that mission: part competition, part summer block party, fully open to the public.

Unlike most cocktail competitions, where a private judging panel picks the winner behind closed doors, the Dirty Rocks Cocktail Competition puts the vote directly in attendees’ hands. Guests taste every entry and cast votes for their favorite, with additional votes up for grabs through networking challenges built to get strangers talking throughout the event — a genuinely clever mechanic that ties the community-building mission directly into the competition itself, not just a marketing line.

At the Dirty Rocks Cocktail Competition, every bartender works with Patrón Tequila as the core spirit, competing to make the most memorable, enjoyable, and delicious tequila cocktail for a cash prize. The atmosphere stays casual throughout — a DJ spins all day, a food truck handles the pizza alongside Fringe Bar’s full à la carte menu, and drink specials at the bars run $5 to $12.

Meet the Nine Bartenders (and the Champion Defending Her Title)

The August Dirty Rocks Cocktail Competition lineup: Matt Welch from R&D, Kari Rosenfeld from Bourbon & Branch, Kevin Castro from Soufiane at the Morris, Roland Bui from Com.Unity Consulting, Damian Langarcia from Drams by Damian, Chris Harrop from Known Associates, Tony Jimenez from Static, Jackie Miller from Fringe Bar itself, and reigning champion Jessica Stark from Trestle Inn.

Stark is defending a genuinely hard-won title. Her May 2026 winning cocktail, The Red Wedding, combined Patrón Silver, Cointreau, tomato water, bell pepper syrup, cilantro, lime juice, and Hobbs Sauce — and she won by exactly one vote. With eight bartenders gunning for her title this round, including Fringe Bar’s own Jackie Miller with a genuine home-court advantage, the margin for error looks just as thin heading into August.

Dirty Rocks Cocktail Competition general admission is $20 and includes entry, drink discounts, three votes, and three raffle chances. VIP tickets run $45 and add a complimentary welcome drink, a gift bag, and ten votes.
