Les Dames D’Escoffier Celebrates Women in Food at the 2026 Heritage Dinner

Les Dames D’Escoffier Philadelphia’s Heritage Dinner 2026 honors Rose Levy Beranbaum, Melissa Hamilton, Christopher Hirsheimer, and Michele Leff at a communal dinner benefiting culinary scholarships.

The Heritage Dinner 2026 returns Sunday, September 13, from 4 to 7 PM, as Les Dames D’Escoffier Philadelphia hosts its annual Outstanding in Her Field celebration along the riverbanks of Glen Foerd Mansion. More than two dozen chefs, bakers, and restaurateurs from across the region will present a single communal, family-style meal built to raise scholarship funds for women entering the culinary field.

Heritage Dinner 2026’s Honorees

This year’s Outstanding in Her Field honorees include Rose Levy Beranbaum, author of The Cake Bible and the woman widely credited with popularizing the reverse-creaming method that changed how home bakers approach cake texture. Beranbaum will debut her new memoir, Ma Vie en Rose: My Sweet Life, the same week as the dinner, and a $300 VIP ticket includes an advance copy ahead of its publication date.

Also honored are Melissa Hamilton and Christopher Hirsheimer of Canal House Studio and Station, whose Canal House Cooking series helped define a style of food writing rooted in the Delaware Valley’s farms and seasons, and Michele Leff, founder of 12th Street Catering, who built a 32,000-square-foot operation and 365-person team from a single stall she opened at Reading Terminal Market in 1982.

Les Dames Philadelphia Co-President Lynn Buono described what unites this year’s honorees despite their different paths. “Amazing integrity, blazing work ethics, their contributions to the food world, and a commitment to caring for their community,” Buono said of the three.

What’s on the Table at Heritage Dinner 2026

The evening opens with a raw bar from Sweet Amalia Oysters before moving into a family-style dinner where each dish honors one of the three honorees. Joncarl Lachman is preparing herring with Amsterdam pickled vegetables drawing on his Dutch roots, while 12th Street’s Adam Delosso is serving the restaurant’s own iconic Cantina Chicken Mole in Leff’s honor, and a Seared Salmon with Chanterelles Ragout pays tribute to Hamilton and Hirsheimer’s own Canal House recipe.

Dessert takes over with a Grand Cake Table built specifically in Beranbaum’s honor, sponsored by Fante’s and featuring contributions from more than a dozen regional bakeries and culinary schools, including Frosted Fox Cake Shop, Night Kitchen, Isgro’s, and Walnut Hill College. Night Kitchen’s contribution carries particular weight: the bakery’s founding recipes were originally inspired by The Cake Bible itself.

Students from Walnut Hill College’s Restaurant School are also assisting with prep and service throughout the event, a detail that folds the dinner’s scholarship mission directly into the evening rather than keeping it separate from the meal itself.

Les Dames Philadelphia has run Outstanding in Her Field since 2016, and the chapter itself traces back to 1984, founded by pioneering figures including Susanna Foo, Judy Wicks, and Aliza Green. The Heritage Dinner follows a strong recent run of Philadelphia culinary events, including Philly Pheast earlier this year, another dinner built around celebrating the people behind the region’s food scene rather than just the food itself.

Tickets start at $200 and are available now at lesdamesphilly.org, with proceeds supporting the chapter’s scholarship program for women pursuing careers in food, hospitality, beverage, and agriculture. It’s a meal worth the ticket price on its own, but the mission behind it is what makes a seat at this table actually matter.
