The Musicopia Drumlines Expo takes over Cherry Street Pier on Thursday, May 7, at 5 p.m. with student percussion ensembles from across Philadelphia performing in a free, public showcase that turns one of the city’s best waterfront venues into a stage for the next generation. Co-hosted by Musicopia and the School District of Philadelphia, the Musicopia Drumlines Expo brings together students from the organization’s after-school percussion program alongside other school-based ensembles for an evening of rhythm, energy, and a finale that puts every performer on the same beat.
What to Expect at the Musicopia Drumlines Expo
The Musicopia Drumlines Expo features student ensembles performing group sets that showcase both individual growth and collective discipline. Musicopia’s after-school Drumlines program serves students in grades 3 through 12 across multiple Philadelphia schools, building music fundamentals alongside life skills like focus, timing, and teamwork — the kinds of things that only become visible when a group of young musicians locks in together on a stage. The evening is expected to culminate in a combined finale bringing every student performer together as one unified ensemble, which is the moment that tends to stay with you after you leave.

Musicopia and the Musicopia Drumlines Expo at Cherry Street Pier
Founded in 1974, Musicopia has served nearly half a million young people through school-based music and dance education across Greater Philadelphia. The organization runs an after-school string orchestra program, the Drumlines program featured at the Expo, the Walter R. Garrison Arts Leadership Academy, a ballroom dance academy, community arts programming, the Philadelphia Lullaby Project, and the Gift of Music Instrument Donation Program. In 2026, Musicopia merged with Musicopia Dance — formerly Dancing Classrooms Philly — and now serves more than 25,000 students annually. Philadelphia’s music identity runs deep enough to sustain programming at every level, and the Musicopia Drumlines Expo represents the pipeline — young artists building the fundamentals that feed the city’s broader creative ecosystem.
The Musicopia Drumlines Expo takes place Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 5 p.m. at Cherry Street Pier, 121 North Christopher Columbus Boulevard. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit musicopia.net.
